The Phone Call

The phone call from the doctor came in the middle of the day. Two days prior I had gone in for a wellness physical. His news was unsettling - My PSA was 92.

I did not know what that meant - only that my doctor said it was "very high" and that I needed to see a urologist. He gave me a referral and a number. And fear came.

I had heard the cancer stories. I didn't know what applied to me. I didn't know what was next.

It's fourteen years later now. But on that day ... I was terrified.
