My first visit to the urologist was a blur. I had read that a normal PSA value is between 1.0 and 4.0 (ng/mL).
Some men might be elevated with a PSA of 6 or 8 or even 12, but that doesn't mean cancer.
When my doctor told me again my PSA was 92, I didn't hear medical terminology.
This time there was: Alarm. Shock. Panic.
I thought about pain. I thought about losing the people I love.
I thought "Is this how it ends?"
And underneath it all was one overwhelming question:
"What do I do now?"
The doctor reviewed my lab work, asked about my lifestyle, and performed a digital rectal exam. It was uncomfortable but brief. Based on my PSA and exam, we scheduled a biopsy.
I remember that day clearly. If you're in that moment right now, I want you to know I've been there.
