Following Surgery

If you are facing surgery, you need to understand this: The first days afterward are about healing. The clarity about pathology and prognosis comes a bit later. You may not get all the answers immediately.

It wasn't until my first follow-up office visit with the urologist that results were shared. My numbers were:

PSA: 0.3 (not 92!)

Final Gleason Score: 5+3

Lymph Nodes: 17 tested , 1 involved

Percent of prostate involved with tumor: 80% right lobe, 50% left lobe

Bladder neck, urethra and vas deferens involved

Pathologic stage: pT3bpN1MX

The results concluded that my situation had been very serious.
