Now every three months I receive an injection (I was given some ADT options: Trelstar, Lupron, Eligard).
I was told they are all equivalent and they are a typical first line ADT defense.
Along with the injection I always have my PSA and Testosterone levels tested.
The days leading up to that blood test are difficult. Even now, fourteen years later, the anticipation builds.
You wait for the PSA result. You hope it hasn't risen. For me, this cycle repeats four times every year.
The medication can cause mood swings. It drives a man to the equivalent of male menopause (I've heard it called "manopause") The emotional build-up before each PSA test and injection adds another layer of anxiety.
Every three months, the hardest part is not the injection. It is the waiting.
